# Set up the mart

> Switch on Mart POS, add the people who run the mart, and build the catalogue: products, barcodes, VAT and prices.

## Switch it on

An owner or admin turns on Mart POS under **Apps**. Choose **Try free for 14 days**, then the stations that have a mart. Each station gets two tills, **Till 1** and **Till 2**.

The trial is once per company. To keep the mart after it, or to add stations, talk to us. While Mart POS is on, the sidebar has a **Mart** section: Till, Mart day, Products, Mart stock and Mart reports.

## Who does what

Invite the mart's people under **People**, at their station:

* **Mart manager** — products, prices, stock, returns, discounts and the mart's daily close.
* **Cashier** — opens a till, sells and closes their own till.

Owners and admins can do everything. The mart manager and the station manager are often different people, which is why the mart closes its own day (see [Close the till and the day](/mart/close-the-till-and-the-day)).

## Add products

Under **Products**, choose **Add product**.

* **Name** and **category** (Drinks, Snacks…). Categories become the till's quick filters; add them with **New category**.
* **Price, with VAT.** Shelf prices include VAT. Set **VAT** to 7.5% or none; the receipt shows the VAT part.
* **Barcodes.** Scan the pack into the barcode box (a scanner types the code and presses Enter), or type it. A product can have several barcodes; a barcode belongs to one product.
* **Latest cost.** Used for margin. It updates by itself when you record goods received with a cost.
* **Same as lubricant.** Link a product to the station's lubricant so the daily sheet shows what the mart sold of it instead of a count.

## Prices at each station

The catalogue is the company's. Open a product to set, for the station you're looking at:

* **Price here** — leave it empty to use the company price.
* **Reorder at** — the product shows as low at this many or fewer.
* **Sold at this station** — switch off what a station doesn't stock.

## Arrange the till

Under **Mart → Products**, choose **Arrange the till**:

* **Favourites at the station** — pin up to 12 best sellers. They open first on that station's tills, in your order. Each station has its own.
* **Categories** — the order of the category buttons on every till. Give a category a colour with the swatch on its row, and its tiles and button take that colour, so cashiers find things at a glance.
* **Products** — the order within each category, on every till.

Drag a row by its handle, or use the arrows. Tills pick up the new order the next time they load.

## Mart cash and the forecourt

In **Station setup**, **Mart cash** says what happens to the mart's cash at close:

* **Banked separately** — the mart banks its own cash. The daily sheet shows the mart's takings for the full picture.
* **Handed to the forecourt** — the mart's cash goes into the station's cash to bank, and the station's sheet can't be submitted until the mart's day is closed.
